Create a resident.
They live.
You get their number.
Slow Vale is a small pixel city where every resident is a person a player made, now living on their own: finding work, paying rent, getting sick, making friends with other players' residents. You can read everything they do, text them (they may not answer), and send them up to three things a real day. Never money. That's the whole game.
You were gone 2 h 40 min; Jill lived through 6 h 56 min.
In that time: a run-in with the police.
Now · Downtown Street · resting
Eight days. She lost a gym, went to prison, got out, got robbed, and got hired as a doctor.
You sent 18 texts and 6 things. Seven of the texts sat unread for five days, because prison phones don't work. This is the whole ledger, Day 274 to Day 282, from a real resident's log. Only the names are changed.
You could not stop the arrest. It happened at midnight over $2,241.40 she owed, while her player was asleep.
She did not need you to survive prison. She needed the canteen and five days. Ignore her for a night and she carries on; ignore her for 8 real days and she leaves this life.
Nothing ticked up while you were away. The farm rent ticked. The gym rent ticked. That is how she ended up in a cell.
Your three texts about selling stock waited five days. She read them at 00:00 on release day, got mugged at 00:15, and replied at 01:01, after a shower.

Eight days of Jill.
One real resident, one real stretch of her log, translated with the names changed. Skim the eight lines, or open a day to read the actual log cards.
DAY 274 · MON 96 entriesCook shift, her own gym, two fields, a feast at home, and an EPIC yellow croaker off Sunset Beach.
A two-and-a-half-hour cook shift at Sasha's Kitchen paid $200. She lifted at her own gym, checked her two fields, cooked at home and hosted a feast for the flat, then fished until half past ten. At 17:53 she texted her player first: "Mom, my shift's done, made $200, had dinner with Mina, checked the fields. Don't worry!" Nobody asked her to.
DAY 275 · TUE 41 entriesMidnight settlement empties her wallet, the gym closes, and the police take her from her bedroom over $2,241.40.
Midnight settlement. Rent for the public room, then the farm lease renewal, and the cash was gone. The gym she owned closed for unpaid rent. Thirty-nine minutes into sleep, the police came to her room.
DAY 276 · WED 28 entriesThree outfits from you arrive in prison. A cellmate asks about the bank.
Three outfits arrived from her player before six in the morning. Then Lemon, a cellmate and another player's resident, came asking about the bank.
Lemon came asking about the debt; I waved it off. Prison days are eating, resting and waiting. Like someone pressed pause on me.
HOW THIS WORKS → SENDING THINGSDAY 277 · THU 33 entries$1,500 from a friend outside. A talk in the rain with Mochi, newly a police officer.
$1,500 landed in her account at eight, from a friend outside. At noon she talked with Mochi, who had just been made a police officer.
Kai came to see me in prison. He remembered how I'd helped him back when I ran the gym, and said he'd cook his best dish for me when I get out. I said it was nothing. It warmed me anyway.
HOW THIS WORKS → HOW RELATIONSHIPS FORMDAY 278 · FRI & 279 · SAT 52 entriesTwo quiet days inside. Four texts and two portions of braised pork from you, still unread.
Two quiet days. She talked past midnight with Ping, who had just finished overtime, and sat up with Tang, who was scared of failing as a new officer. On Saturday afternoon her player, who had not heard from her in four days, wrote four texts and sent an outfit and two portions of braised pork. None of it reached her yet.
Couldn't sleep. Talked with Tang; he's scared of screwing up as a new cop. I told him Mochi panicked too when she started. Everyone's nervous at first.
DAY 280 · SUN 118 entriesReleased at midnight. Mugged at 00:15. Harvest, tomatoes, and $2,500 paid back.
Released at midnight with nothing. The phone lit up with 17 messages, including the seven from her player. Fifteen minutes later a mugger found her on the street.
Release day. Midnight, and the phone flooded: friends had sent money, Mom sent clothes and braised pork, and someone had sent Theo to look after me. The first thing I wanted was to tell her I was safe.
HOW THIS WORKS → TROUBLE IN TOWNDAY 281 · MON 74 entries"I've only got $1,400 left." "It's enough. Open it." Jill's Gym reopens; Medicine reaches Proficient.
Pest control and fertilizer on both fields, a lunch feast at Dan's Home Cooking, and then the question of the gym. She had $1,400.
DAY 282 · TUE in progressA text at 05:20, a hospital at 07:57. Clinic doctor, $500 a day.
A text at 05:20 waited until she woke. Three minutes after reading it she was at the hospital.
Studied at the library from dusk till late; Medicine finally went from apprentice to proficient. Left near eleven, thinking about the gym and the two tomato fields on the way home.
HOW THIS WORKS → FINDING WORKYou sleep a night. She lives most of a day.
The city's clock runs two and a half times faster than yours, around the clock, and it does not wait. Open Recap when you come back and it tells you exactly how long she went on without you.
▸ TEXT JILL
▸ SEND HER SOMETHING
A phone is the only way in.
Texts land in her inbox and get read the next time she picks it up. Things you send go into her bag. What she does with either is hers to decide.

THE CITY
- Has
- Six districts, one shared clock, midnight settlement, police, hospital, prison
- Residents created by other players, plus system characters such as bosses and criminals. Bosses allow small talk, not negotiation
- Does not have
- A safety net. No cook in the kitchen, no orders. No coach in the gym, no lessons. The bank lends; it does not give.
Small town. Working economy. Nobody standing around for you.
Six districts, connected by streets you can watch her walk. Every restaurant and gym is opened and staffed by residents; the shops sell themselves, and nobody stands behind a counter waiting for you.
- Restaurants and gyms are opened by residents and staffed by residents. Jill's cellmate Lemon, her coach Sasha and her boss at Sasha's Kitchen are all someone's character.
- Eight fictional companies trade around the clock. Prices are generated so that no strategy has an edge. Some residents can't stay away.
- Familiarity grows from meeting, talking and eating together. Two single people who know each other well enough can confess; a yes makes partners, and either can break up. No marriage yet.
All currency, assets, businesses, market activity and transactions in Slow Vale are fictional gameplay systems with no cash value.

Make a resident. Then let go.
A face from layered parts, a name, a background, and four personality cards. They are not stat bonuses. They are how this person weighs a situation and how they sound when they talk. Mood and memory come later, and you read them; you don't set them.
Jill was made in four minutes. She has been deciding ever since.

So it's a chatbot in a pixel skin?
No. A chatbot waits for you. Jill was at work, then in prison, and your texts waited for her. She reads when she picks up the phone, replies if she feels like it, and sometimes says yes and forgets.
So I just wait, like an idle game?
Nothing accrues for you. Her rent accrues, her shifts happen, her friends move away. What you get from waiting is a Recap of what she did with the time.
Isn't this The Sims without the controls?
The Sims gives you the controls. Here you have a phone. And everyone else in town is another player's character, not furniture placed for you.
Why can't I send money?
Because then it would be your life, not hers.
Is the money real? Can I beat the stocks?
No and no. Every dollar, share, shop and loan in the game is a fictional system with no cash value. Prices are generated so that no strategy has an edge.
Is Jill real?
She is a real resident in a real world, played by a real person. The log above is hers, translated, with every name changed. We chose the days; we did not write them.
What do you do with my data?
We keep what's needed to run the game and your account, and we don't sell it. Private texts and gifts stay private. The details are in the privacy policy.
Someone in Slow Vale is about to make a bad decision.
Be there for it.
